Members of the Impact Team 2050 International Youth Advisory Council met with Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Forum. Council members presented their projects aimed at popularizing nuclear technology and the environmental agenda among young people.
During the current meeting, Impact Team 2050 members presented a pool of educational and humanitarian projects in Central and East Asia, Africa, Latin America, in particular Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Africa, and Turkey. For several months, the young people worked on initiatives to sensitize young people in different countries to the opportunities of nuclear technology and education, and the role of the nuclear industry in addressing environmental and climate challenges.
The Impact Team 2050 Council was presented by Alexey Likhachev at the Global Impact Conference 2021 as an initiative of global partnership between Rosatom and young people from different countries to make strategic decisions on working with foreign youth audience, developing Rosatom based on the principles of sustainable development, and promoting the potential of the nuclear industry. The Council members are 12 people from 12 countries: talented scientists, engineers, managers, community and opinion leaders, international activists in the field of sustainable development and climate change issues.
"It is obvious that today nuclear technologies are going through a renaissance around the world. That is why the task of attracting personnel for the industry and explaining to young people that nuclear power is an integral part of the energy balance and solving climate challenges is so urgent. This is the value for us of the projects proposed by the guys," said Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom.
Last year, the Impact Team 2050 presented a report and recommendations on the development of international education and approaches to working with young experts abroad. A number of the proposed ideas have already become part of Rosatom's ongoing projects and initiatives.
At the Director General's suggestion, the next Impact Team 2050 Council meeting will be held on the sidelines of the Obninsk NEW Youth Nuclear Forumon September 19-23, 2023.
